Baby on the brain

It's strange to look down each day and think, this is the biggest I have ever been.  As I watch the scale creep up and move into maternity clothes on a daily basis, the baby's kicks are a nice reminder of what is causing all this change.  Still feeling great and everything is going well.

This past week was very baby-centric.  We visited two day cares this week and have a third scheduled for this coming week.  It seems very early to me to be looking, but one the the places I had originally called said they were full until next June.  What?  You're supposed to call before you're pregnant?  Luckily they're going to open a new center in another suburb, so they expect openings about when we'd be needing to send the little tyke somewhere.  One place we were really impressed by, the other we're going to pass on.  So just waiting to look at the third place before we make a decision.  We've heard some great things about both places and both locations are very convenient.  I'll just be glad to get that crossed off my list!

My friend Jane has been stateside for a month or so now and this week I got to spend some quality time with her.  She had a baby shower and then one evening she and I and our sisters went out to eat and then went second-hand baby and maternity shopping.  Jane, my sister, and I are all pregnant and it was fun to do some bargain shopping with them!  It's good to know where these stores are (I even started a punch card at one) as I'm sure I'll be back as the kiddo grows.  Kids grow so fast hand-me-downs and used clothes just make sense!

Today the hospital we plan to deliver at had a baby expo so we headed downtown to check it out.  We took a tour of the birthing suites, nursery, and rooms, all of which are really nice.  It was also just nice to see where all the magic would happen so it would be a little familiar removing a little stress on the big day.  I also spoke with the lactation specialist about pumps and she offered to check out my insurance policy to see if it was covered when we come in for classes next week which I really appreciate.  I did call my insurance company and ask them if it was covered, but sometimes insurance speak is Greek to me, so I was unsure after the conversation if I should just buy it myself or pick it up at the hospital.  I figure the specialist at the hospital will know exactly what the insurance will and won't cover when they get my information.  We cruised through the vendors at the expo and were planning on staying for the babies and pets class, but found a very helpful staff member that gave us the handouts so we didn't have to kill another hour waiting for it to start (we had expected there would be more vendors, or at least more we were interested in).

We're still working on getting everything cleaned out of the baby's room and have been researching some bigger ticket items (crib, stroller, car seat, etc.) but I'm still debating on whether to decorate the nursery with baby jungle animals or baby farm animals.  And although we like a lot of names, we still haven't fallen in love with any yet... luckily we still have some time!
