Winding down the summer

It's been so busy that I've let the blog slip a little.  As always, the summer is very busy at work and Rick pulled some extra daddy duty on weekend mornings as I went to work.  Although the work was spread out again this summer, at least it wasn't as hot as last year and the days were shorter.  Weekends were usually done by lunchtime, so it was less strenuous than most years.

The past two weeks really hit our family hard as Natalie decided to share the flu that she brought home from daycare.  She was sick Wednesday night so we kept her home on Thursday.  Rick had every intention of staying home with her that day because I had a few meetings at work that I really couldn't miss, but Thursday morning he came down with the same thing only worse.  I called into my meetings and tended to my sick family, but was a little disappointed that the Friday we had take off to go see the Iowa State Fair was spent recovering instead.  Saturday had promise, but instead the bug hit me (I thought maybe I was in the clear since my immune system held out that long) so the whole weekend was a wash.

I recovered just in time to go on a 3-day work trip up north, but at least I was able to fly this year which cut my travel time.  It was the longest I had been away from Natalie but luckily everyone was moderately healthy and Natalie was pretty well behaved for Daddy.  I got back late Wednesday night, went to work on Thursday, and we took the next Friday off (again) to go and see the fair.  Rick and I dropped Natalie off at daycare and spent the day looking around at all the things we didn't want to take a stroller through and all the things that would be boring for a baby.  It was nice to finally get to see the fair!
Saturday morning we headed back to the fair with Natalie.  We mostly looked at animals because she's too little to enjoy much else, but she was a trooper.  We spent half the day at the fair and spent the rest of the day playing.  It's so good to be home!
Today is the first day in I can't remember how long where we don't have anywhere to be and nothing pressing to do.  It's glorious.  This morning we headed to the park and have spent the rest of the day lounging around the house, playing, catching up on random housework, but nothing major.  It's glorious.  Why can't every day be a lazy Sunday?

Our weekends continue to be full for the next month or so, but the weeks will slow down as the summer comes to an end.  Then it's football season!  Where does the time go?  It seems there was no spring and that the summer flew by.  Can't believe that our little girl is growing so much (no crawling yet, but we're close!) and that she'll be one in a few short months.
