Tonight is the first night I can remember in a long time where I didn't have something pressing to do. The holiday season is always so busy! But the potluck is over, all of the gifts are wrapped, and I finally have some time to catch up.
We've been very busy since the last post. Last week Rick and I went on vacation to Disneyland! We packed light and hit it hard leaving the hotel room before the park opened and not going back until it closed. We rode all of the rides we wanted and rode our favorites multiple times. The crowds weren't terrible, but we definitely benefited from getting to the park early and utilizing the single rider lines on the more popular rides. We also found a great restaurant (and a great drink) at Disney's California Adventure that brought us back more than once. My favorite thing was the Winter Dreams:World of Color production. Essentially it's a light and projection show on water. There are water jets making a solid wall while the lights dance--it was amazing. I have inserted a video below; the whole show is 30 minutes long but you won't be disappointed even if you watch 5 minutes. Another really cool part is the "glow with the show" ears--they light up and are linked with the World of Color show. Of course I had to have a pair! They weren't the most comfortable ears I own, but they were pretty awesome! We had a great trip and it was nice to get away.
While we were off having fun, Natalie was having fun with Grandma and Grandpa. We went up to their house a few days before we left to let Natalie adjust since she was so fussy over Thanksgiving. She was on her best behavior while we were gone and apparently is over her stranger danger phase. When we got back from the trip, she was pretty excited to see Daddy but didn't seem to care either way about me. Go figure. At least I still got a good hug.
My niece Kendall also turned 1 in the past week or so. Last weekend we went to her birthday party which was perfectly done. I hear about a lot of over-the-top first birthday parties but my sister did a great job of putting together a cute party with a winter theme, good snacks, and great decorations. Honestly the perfect 1st birthday party and Miss Kendall was in a great mood. Natalie got along well with all of the strangers around, played nicely and didn't open any of Kendall's presents, so I was happy. We're not doing a big party for her birthday, but we'll have some cupcakes this weekend. I can't believe she's almost one!
Natalie got an eviction notice at daycare: she's moving up to the toddler room! They'll move her up the week after Christmas and at first I balked; I guess I just wasn't ready to accept she's not a baby anymore. The other day she and I went to the new room to meet the teachers and see the room and kids. I think we were both a little overwhelmed. The kids there seemed so big! But the older kids are moving out of that room and there are two or three other babies just turning one so the average age of the "big kid" room is going down. I'm sure it will be fine but I really like the teachers she has now and I will be sad to not have them watching her anymore. I'll also miss chatting with them; I'd be lying if I didn't say that I usually spend 10 minutes at drop off and pick up talking.
I attempted some crafting this Christmas and two of my favorite (and very simple) gifts are below. Baby feet are so cute!
I hope everyone has a great holiday season. Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
