On the mend

This past week has been crazy, but hopefully we're on the upswing.  And hopefully this is more intelligible than the rant it was earlier this weekend.

A week ago Friday Natalie threw up before bed and slept 16 hours on Saturday, but all in all she was happy and never had a fever.  Friday night I also developed a rash on my belly that went away by the end of the weekend so I didn't think much of it.  Monday came and went with Rick and I feeling a little sub par but nothing tragic.  Until Tuesday when Rick was violently ill and I lost my appetite.  Natalie was doing fine so while Rick stayed home sick Tuesday and Wednesday the baby and I continued with our routines.  Wednesday night my rash flared up and didn't go away on Thursday.  The hives became so severe on my stomach and legs that I had a dermatologist appointment for 4 PM Thursday.  Then daycare called around 3:15.

Natalie had a temp of 103.  This happened a few weeks ago and by the time I had picked her up she was fine, but this time she was still warm.  On the drive home I was wondering if we should take her to the doctor or just wait it out and get her some Tylenol, but when we pulled into the garage she puked in the car.  I called and cancelled my doctor appointment and tried to get one for the baby instead.  Of course it was nearly 4 and the pediatricians weren't taking any more appointments that day.  Natalie was very clingy and pretty non-responsive as sick kiddos get, so we decided to take her to urgent care.  By the time we actually got to see a doctor, she was a little more lively and they determined that she may have the beginnings of an ear infection but that given everyone else's ailments that it was likely viral, so there was nothing to do but give her meds for the fever and rest.

Friday I stayed home with Natalie but my rash was unbearable and had spread to everywhere on my body except my hands, feet, and face.  The dermatologist didn't open until an hour after the GP, so I made an appointment as soon as I could on Friday morning.  I had to wake Natalie up to go with me to the doctor and right after I had given her some milk she threw up again, so I was that mom taking a sick baby with me to my doctor appointment.  At this point in the week I was the only one who hadn't had time to be sick so as much as I didn't want to take her out and about, I needed to get my rash under control!  Luckily the meds I requested over the phone on Thursday that couldn't be given without an appointment (of course) did the trick and my skin has cleared up beautifully.  The itching is gone!

Rick says his stomach is still a little iffy.  Natalie has been fighting a fever all weekend and now has a slight rash as well.  We cancelled supper plans on Friday, dentist appointment Friday, play date plans on Saturday, and our Super Bowl party tonight.  Rick also cancelled his trip to Texas this week.  I just wish we could all be healthy!  Work definitely didn't help the stress factor for me this week (I wonder if that contributed to the rash) and I hated that I had to decide who deserved a doctor appointment more but clearly Natalie won that fight on Thursday afternoon.

Being the mom in a sick household is definitely not fun.  I hope for all of our sanity that we're over the worst of it!
