We decided to try it--the famous
Kalalau Trail. I've wanted to hike it since I heard about it. Eleven miles one way--they say it's best to take 3 days and camp. The trail is the only way to get to the Na Pali Coast by land. Anyway, we set some boundaries for ourselves yesterday so we wouldn't end up over our heads.

So we set out with the goal of seeing how difficult it was, checking out the view for a mile or two, and making sure that we only headed uphill (that way when we came back it would be downhill). Our beginning views of Ke'e Beach were beautiful.

The trail itself was not ideal. Lots of roots and rocks that could be treacherous if they were wet. And it was all uphill for the duration of our 1.5 mile hike. But do-able. And, we both decided, it had the most rewarding views we had seen thus far on our hiking trips.

We looked back at the mountain we were climbing and were in awe of the wilderness. But the jaw-dropping beauty happened once we turned the corner towards Na Pali.
