Pre-finals

Last night we went to the PBR in Des Moines. It was awesome. Triple date with my parents and sister and our boyfriends--it was a lot of fun. If you don't know anything about Professional Bull Riding, check out the link. It's a really crazy sport, but the guys are pretty hot. Too bad they don't all wear helmets to protect their pretty faces. We only saw one really bad accident, but he ended up being ok. If you want to check out what we saw last night, watch Versus tonight at 7 ET (though my TV shows it at some late hour. Hmm). We're not too far behind the announcers, so I might take a look...

This was the last week of classes and next week is finals. I only have one and it's on Friday, so I have some time to study. Actually, I have a regular test and final at the same time, but I get to throw out the worst regular exam, so I'm going to focus on the final. I think I'll be ready. But I do need to study.

Other than that, I've been living in a bubble. Thought I would give you a little insight to the entertainment in my daily life. Good/interesting stories I've run across lately:

If you don't watch Oprah (I don't), you may have missed the story about the pregnant man. He was born a woman and did not get his reproductive organs changed. So not as crazy as it could be, but still interesting.

This week was a tremendous display of sportsmanship at a college softball game. A girl hit a home run with two on base, but blew out her knee after missing first base. She crawled back to the base but could not continue on. The umpires said her teammates could not help her--that would be interference. A pinch runner could come in, but would replace her where she was giving her only a single instead of a home run. The first baseman from the opposing team asked if they could carry the runner around the bases to score the runs. She and the shortstop carried the runner, having her gently touch all the bases. The home run lead to a win by two--if the other team had not carried her, they would have won. Great story.

A man and his daughter have a child in South Australia. Apparently they were separated for 30 years (though an ex-wife claims otherwise) and once reunited were instantly attracted to one another. Apparently the baby currently appears normal, though they lost a previous child. Incest is illegal in Australia and the couple is being monitored by police.

And, from the Onion, a story about research at the University of Iowa. I found it funny. Warning, there's swearing.

That's about all I have this morning. I suppose I should get to studying. If you listen to podcasts, I would like to recommend NPR's selections. "This American Life" proves to be very interesting week to week, and the "Fresh Air" podcast is really growing on me. In case you're looking for something interesting to listen to.

Kjell and I saw the PBR a couple months ago. It was pretty fun, but it was definitely a cultural experience for both of us (we felt nekkid without cowboy hats and belt buckles). I think Kjell was half expecting them to open the night with "God Bless the USA" instead of the national anthem.

BTW, the mouse story was fricken awesome. "I wonder if he'll be so smart without a functioning hippocampus." hahahaha
