Funny stories from the fair

The fair was long and exhausting work, but my favorite part of the day was late in the evening when my sister, her co-worker and I sat around sharing our funny stories of the day. Though many things are hilarious when you're there and haven't gotten much sleep, here are some of our favorites that I think you can enjoy even if you weren't there:
  • A little girl was walking around the fairgrounds with the narrow end of a plastic spoon stuck up her nose. No hands, no worries, just contently stuck in her nose.
  • I saw a hairstyle that might rival the mullet--tight, dark curls on a man, shoulder length, with short, curly bangs. Beautiful.
  • A volunteer handed me a coin, noting that it was different than the other quarters she had received that day and perhaps it was a Canadian quarter. On one side was an eagle design, on the other it read "No cash value." My best guess, a car wash or Chuck E. Cheese token. Not a Canadian quarter.
  • Emily's golf cart ran out of gas on the grand concourse (where there are tons of people). She had to push it out of the middle of the road.
  • Allyson noted one day that people were spitting from the skyglider and hit her golf cart.
  • I went to the Kelly Clarkson concert and they put a giant red X on my hand. The next morning I had not 1, but 3 giant red Xs on my forehead. One was so dark it transferred back onto my hand. The worst part? I had stayed in the camper and then had to go to my workplace to shower with 3 big red Xs on my forehead.
  • At the Kelly Clarkson concert, I had 4th row tickets--literally 10 feet from the stage. There were three older couples in front of us, two of which were having a great time. The third couple were yelling at others to sit down, fell asleep during the concert, and ended up listening to an iPod at the end of the concert.

I feel like there were more, but I'm drawing a blank right now. My mom was inducted (with my former 4-H leader Gloria) into the 4-H Hall of Fame on Sunday--we're so proud of them! And at the end of the fair I was made "official" by the water crew by dunking my head into the ice water tank...it was cold but fun. The water crew was so fun to work with!

Kelly was awesome and I had a lot of fun at the concert. All in all the fair was fun. I was going through fair food withdrawal (I needed cheese curds mid-Monday morning) but now all I have left to show for the fair is a slight sock tan and a little better rested.

And things are as busy as ever, back to school, judging state 4-H awards, looking for jobs, working on papers, catching up with Rick (who I feel like I haven't seen in forever)! Never a dull moment!
