Sleepless weekend

Sadly, I haven't gotten much more rest since the last post. But that's summer, right?

After a full work week with some real scorchers, Friday night rolled around with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Polk County. I grew up going to the Relay for Life--our 4-H club had a team--and started back up when I lived in Hawaii and last year was the first year for the JayWalkers. We had lower participation this year, but we still raised a respectable amount and had a lot of fun at the Relay.

Rick had been travelling all week, so he came for the opening lap and stayed an hour or so before going home to crash. Anne and I had a lot of fun playing the Relay Olympics and did quite well for ourselves. We won the teammate trivia, cheese ball toss, orange-on-a-spoon relay, and butt charades. Anne did really well in the hula hooping contest and Gordon, a fellow team member, got 2nd in the toilet paper shot put. Though we were a small team, we had a lot of fun. Anne and I threw in the towel at 4 AM since I had to work the next day.
Spent Saturday at work, and in the middle of the night we had a terrible storm that woke us up. We ran to the basement with our weather radio and spent an hour or so there before we deemed it safe to go back to bed. The next morning, our patio furniture was askew and the table top was ripped from the legs:
...but not broken. The lid to the grill was down at the corner as well. The Sunday following the storm was the first day of work we had off since the 4th of July since there was 3 inches of rain and the fields were a mess. The corn sustained hail damage and wind damage and hasn't looked the same since. At least we didn't have any damage at the house.
