Spring has sprung!
The weather has finally started to shape up and spring is lovely! This past weekend my sister and I sang a duet ("For Good" from Wicked) at a variety show for our old 4-H Club--it went well and I think that it was well received by the crowd. It was pretty fun too! A big project for the weekend was Easter decorations. My mom and sister cut out the "cookies" made of baking soda, corn starch, and water last weekend and we did our best at decorating them with acrylic paint this weekend. And glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.
My mom has had an Easter tree since I can remember. She cuts off a branch from her apple tree and puts it in some sand, waters it, and it blossoms. It's decorated with dyed and decorated eggs and some cookies like these that were purchased somewhere along the line. Mom took some inspiration from these cookies and we made our own. We had so many that both my sister and I took home a dozen or so to decorate our own homes. But I don't have a flowering tree to make my own Easter tree.

Cool! How do you make those "cookies?" I think that would be a fun project for Anna.
They were fun! Here's the recipe:
2 cups baking soda
1 cups corn starch
1 1/4 cups water
Mix the soda and starch together, then add the water. Cook in a saucepan to a boil. Boil for 1 minute (may have to go longer, you want it to look like mashed potatoes). Cool by placing "dough" in a wet towel. Knead, roll (we did a 1/4" thick), cut out (and put holes in them if you want to hang them). Let them dry for a few days, and then comes the fun--decorate as desired! We used acrylic paints and glitter and ribbon for hanging. I might suggest cutting the recipe in half--it made a lot of cookies!
Have fun, would love to see the finished products!
