Today Kristin's boyfriend picked up my bed while I watched his gym for him--was that an experience--and I got a PO Box (finally!). This morning I went in early to print off my itinerary for my flight home and I got really excited about coming home. I decided to work up a little Christmas list of things I've missed and I'm excited about:
- Seeing my family
- Eating Mom's good home cooking--I'll prepare a request list!
- Seeing friends
- Snow--you'd better have some!! I want to build a snowman and have a snowball fight...
- Wearing sweaters and not sweating and my flannel-lined jeans
- My Adelaide hat. You know, the one I wear all winter with the dorky fuzz ball on the top. I miss that thing.
- Riding Maggie as much as possible (can she come in for Christmas?)
- Sleeping under heavy layers of blankets
- the sound of the wooden floors creaking under my feet at home
- the warm water in the toilet bowl
- Arby's and Wendy's, Hickory Park and Texas Roadhouse
- Shopping at Kohl's, and standing under the gentle hum of the fluorescent bulbs at the wonder that is Target. Oh how I miss the red and the annoying little dog.
- Our family Christmas tree--always ridiculously big and the ornaments with memories attached to each and every one
- Jewel--she'll put Jezebel to shame
- Julseth Christmas--I'm a little concerned about the krumkake--are Allyson and I still going to be able to carry on the tradition of starting the house on fire Christmas Eve morning since my plane doesn't get in until 1?
- The feeling of Christmas and love in the family, the way the house holds in warmth, the way the bed sheets feel cool when you crawl in, the goodies, the hugs, the bite in the air... I can't wait!!!
Tying up loose ends, I drive past this "scenic lookout" everyday on my way to and from work and it's filled with tourists so I decided to take a picture of the Hanapepe Valley to share:
Booked tickets for the January trip as well--will be in Iowa the 15-20. And the big Christmas parade in Waimea is on the 23rd, the same day I leave for home. It starts at 6 and my flight doesn't leave until 10:15, drive 23 miles, subtract time for check-in and security, divide by traffic time and multiply by empty roads--I might be able to catch the beginning. Depending on if it blocks off the highway or not... Only 12 days left!!

The things on your Christmas list are priceless, and oh, so precious. Your mother and I shared many memories as we were decorating my tree last week. It's not as big a tree as usual, but each ornament that was hung had a story. And after all is said and done, I'm glad that Joan insisted that I put up a tree, even if I'm not going to be here. I heard a bit about some of the foods you want to eat while at home, and I'll do my part in making those wishes come true. See you soon, and remember, I love you more!
