Last week was somewhat uneventful, or at least in comparison with this past weekend. I got my molecular biology test back and got a 96. I was so excited! Things in the lab were going fairly well last week too. Friday night Rick and I headed to Northwood to help Mom out with the cattle. There weren't any new babies born while we were there, but we helped out with chores, tagging and weighing babies, and I even took the 3 AM baby check shifts. Fun, fun. Saturday we brought a calf in the house to be treated by dad. Poor thing bellered all night and died Sunday morning. Needless to say, it was not a relaxing weekend.
We came home yesterday afternoon with the hopes of relaxing a little and going to bed early. We found our shower pipe frozen (again) and left the valve open in hopes of thawing it (just like last time). When water finally came through the shower, it wasn't going down the drain. So we shut off the shower but it still made noise like it was running. By the time I had my dad on the phone to ask what the problem could be, Rick found water pouring down the closet doors from the ceiling in the guest bedroom. We frantically looked for the water shut-off while trying to get ahold of the landlord... Uff da. We got the water shut off and the landlord came out and shut off the water to just that section of the house so we could still use the other bathrooms. Talk about a nightmare. Luckily we don't have much in that room and we were able to move the bed and other things in the way of the waterfall. Just not what I was looking for on my "relaxing" evening.
This week is the Beef Expo, so I'll probably be freezing my butt off and playing with cows to help Dad out. He's doing well with his walker and has started going back to work to do small animals and office work. He can't drive and sitting isn't his most comfortable activity, so Mom will take him in for a half day or so until he gets tired of standing. He is now able to sit to eat (I guess he was standing before we got there) and on Saturday night he took the walker up the stairs and slept in his own bed. He's really come a long way in the past week!
I hope everyone is staying warm--is winter over yet?
