Saturday Rick and I went to the
Des Moines Farmer's Market. Neither of us had ever been there before and we were both
pleasantly surprised. There were a ton of people and lots of vendors with quite the variety. We sampled a lot of cheeses and wines and salsas...we bought cupcakes and pulled pork sandwiches while walking around the market and came home with a bottle of local wine, a chunk of fudge, and a few ears of peaches and cream sweet corn. It was a good exploratory trip, and we're both looking forward to returning later this summer.
We then packed up all of the baked goods and headed to
Wartburg. I hadn't been on campus for a few years and Rick had never been, so we wandered around and I gave him the tour. The May Term band played a concert in front of the chapel and the day couldn't have been nicer.

Our little
JayWalkers foodstand did pretty well raising about $350 for the American Cancer Society. We sold
rootbeer (and orange and strawberry) floats and many brownies and cookies. We were invited to come back again next year and provide refreshments, so apparently the band appreciated our efforts, too!

Had to show this other angle. You can really appreciate
Alek's apron and the "cookies fight cancer" poster!

After the bake sale, we went out to eat and then out on the town in Waverly. We hit the "
trifecta" of bars in town and had a lot of fun--brought back lots of memories from years past.
Yesterday and today have both been pretty low-key; doing homework and cleaning, watching too much TV and
enjoying the beautiful weather. We went to Ada
Hayden park, very popular in
Ames, and enjoyed a nice long walk around the lake. And tomorrow it's back to work, back to class, back to reality.
