Lake Lugano, Switzerland

Lake Lugano was a nice stay for us back on the Swiss side of the border.  We rolled into Lugano in the late afternoon and parked on top of our hotel.  Yes, on top.  Our hotel was so centrally located that we couldn't actually drive down in front of it.  And, there was a funicular running through (not next to, through) our hotel!  In the picture above the funicular is going from the town center up to the parking lot.  Luckily our room was not near the funicular and we could hardly hear it.  The hotel was so close to the next building that they had placed a painting outside our window so we had a "view".  Too funny!
That night we opted for the Lake Lugano cruise.  Our group had a private cruise boat with a local captain and guide and it was a lovely night.

All along the lake were very nice (very expensive) houses and villas along the lake, many of which were accessible only by boat.  The one in the picture above is for sale for 40 million Euros.

I loved this little fisherman's village!

We stopped for supper at a grotto (I think on the Italy side of the lake) and ate some local fare.  First was vegetable soup, than the main course had a little bit of everything: rice, chicken, pork rib, tomato with stuffing, polenta (similar to cornbread grits), shrimp, and fish.  There was a custard dessert as well.  I was seated right on the water and the view as the sun set was pretty amazing.

I loved watching the lighting change as the sun set.  I couldn't put the camera down!

After supper we hopped back on the boat and cruised a bit more.  There was a huge casino next to a church which they converted to a museum after the casino was built, but the new church wasn't too much farther down the road.  The picture below is a beautiful church along the water built in the 700.  It was renovated in the 1600s, but still impressive at its age.  The stairs led to the water so people could get to church from the water.  All in all, it was a beautiful evening on the lake!
