This past weekend was busy! My sister's friends threw her a baby shower back home and my mom and I both prepared a dessert for the occasion. I decided to try decorating a baby-themed cake. I'm a good baker, but not a skilled decorator. I decided to use a trusted recipe for both the cake and the frosting figuring that the decorating would be hard enough without trying a new recipe. Something happened this weekend--I lost my baking touch! The first cake was an inch thick so I had to remake it. The second cake turned out better but then the frosting tasted strange. Nothing some added sugar and almond flavoring couldn't fix.
Here's my attempt at cake decorating. The pink things are supposed to be booties and the blue are rattles. Not professional grade by any means, but not half bad for one of my first major decorating attempts! The shower was an open house so there were a lot of familiar faces from our hometown there. Many did not know that I was pregnant as well, and a poor woman who was friends with my sister's mother-in-law and hadn't met my sister assumed that I was her which led to a very funny conversation for everyone. Everyone but the poor woman who was confused, but she was a good sport.
My sister and I told our grandmother about our pregnancies together by asking her if she would make Christmas stockings for our little ones. My little niece or nephew got their stocking this weekend. So cute, can't wait to see what ours will look like!
And then some mandatory sister pictures. My aunt made us touch bellies, which neither of us were excited about.
It was a lovely shower and got me excited for mine coming up in a few weeks!
Rick's dad came up this weekend as well and the boys put together the nursery; more on that (complete with pictures) very soon!
