Sailing!

Two quick pieces of business:
  • I was on TV for the Wiamea Town Celebration, apparently stuffing my face with an ear of sweet corn. I didn't see it, but one of my workers told me I looked pretty on TV. Yes!
  • I lost my cell phone. Bad news. It's somewhere between the beach and my house, perhaps even eaten by a seal. So the phone's been turned off for now and a co-worker is bringing me an old phone that Verizon will reprogram for me. Hopefully I'll get the other phone today, but until then, call my home phone to get a hold of me.
Yesterday after work I went sailing!! None of these are the boat I was on, but it was similar to these. I was a little nervous; I had never stepped foot on a sailboat and we were in a race! It was actually pretty slow since the wind was light and variable which made it easier for me to catch on to what was going on. They gave me an easy job--I let out the line for the head sail and put the wench on and tailed the other head line. Pretty easy stuff. The boat owners were really nice before and after the race, but during the race was pretty hectic. The biggest gust we got was around 20 knots and we got up to 3 or so knots of speed on the boat. And I can't believe the boat can tip so far without actually tipping over!
Anyway, it was fun. They asked me to be on the regular crew, so I must not have done too badly. The boat was relatively small, I think a 35-footer--4 of us were manning it pretty well. I didn't get seasick and had fun. Races every Thursday!!
Allyson and Mom will be here tomorrow--I can't wait! Kristin and I cleaned and rearranged the spare room so Mom would have a place to put her air mattress. Tonight I conquer cleaning my room and doing some laundry. It's never fun, but it has to be done. My family will be here before I go to bed tomorrow!!
