The weekend of friends

Hello all. It's been a while since I've actually written as opposed to posting pictures (though I'm putting up some of my new place since I think I've neglected to do that so far). Anyway, I had a great weekend and thought I would share it with everyone.

Last week went quickly. I took my car in for an oil change on Wednesday and it turns out I don't have tailpipe (you think I would have noticed that) and a hole in my muffler (that explains the horrendous noise it makes) so I'm taking it back in this week to get that fixed up. Nothing major. I also bought a couch that night and was really excited about it.

Friday night was the 'Rhian Horror Picture Show.' My friend Rhian celebrated her 30th birthday with a Rocky Horror bash with costumes and all. I have always been Janet in the past, but I ratted my hair and put on some fishnets and a black dress and was Magenta this time. Someone did my makeup and it was a lot of fun. We had props and half of the crowd was dressed up and yelling at the movie. I'll have to see if I can get some pictures of the night. There were some pretty awesome costumes (though I would put myself in the top 5).

Saturday was tire day. That's right, my car is sitting outside with 4 brand new tires. The tire guy asked me if I wanted the white writing on the inside or outside--what good are new tires if no one is going to notice them? Actually, Saturday was new stuff day. After the tires I went to Sears and bought a new digital camera (therefore I am able to post pictures without having to hand off the disc and wait a week to get the photos back). It was the last one--the display model--so I got it on clearance with the same warranty, so I was happy. After the camera we picked up the couch. Of course when we got it out of the storage it was a little less fabulous than originally thought, but I spent the day Febreezing and washing down the couch. I love it. It's so huge if I sit with my back against the couch, I can't bend my knees and my legs only stick out a foot or so. Very deep couch.

Kristin's birthday is tomorrow so she decided to have a girls' night on Saturday. She had a few friends over from work and we did facials and they painted their nails and all that girly stuff. Watched a girly movie, you know, a typical girls' night in. It was fun and with the couch we had ample seating.

Yesterday I went to church with Kristin to watch her play the piano. Washed my car for the first time since I've been here. You'd think it would look better (especially with the new tires), but now you can see all the scratches and it looks a little unnatural all shiny. Oh well, I tried. Sunday was relaxing. Nice. And I'm spending this week preparing for Mom adn Allyson's arrival--already booked our luau and Na Pali/Ni'ihau boat cruise. I can't wait until they get here! Working hard so I don't have to go in next week.

It occurred to me that I had not posted any photos of the new place (even though this is month 3 for this house) so I thought I would share my dwelling with my blog fans.
Our house. 3 bedrooms, half bath. That's my roommate's car in front. Our house is the little one in the front (the worker house) and the house in the rear is our landlord's house (master house). Old sugar plantation home.

Our newly rearranged living room. Notice the great couch!
View from the front door. Past the living room is the kitchen; my room is the door on the right past the cabinet.
Kitchen/dining area. It looks open, but it's actually kind of hard to maneuver around the table and overhanging cupboards.

I'll put up more pictures of the bedrooms and such after I clean my room. Some things never change...

I'll bet you never thought you'd get such a thrill out of buying/owning a couch, did you. Things are looking good. Hilary toured the Pioneer greenhouses yesterday, and of course the media went along, so I got a chance to see inside, and what did I see? Surprise - corn plants! Have fun with your Mom and Allyson - they're getting really excited. Love you more. Grandma
