Miyajima

Oh gosh, which day did we go to Miyajima? Must have been that Wednesday. We got up early and left the hostel and headed as far south as the street car would go to Miyajima--an island south of Hiroshima. The big draw is the shrine gate above--it's in the ocean during high tide and when the water recedes, you can walk out on it. Really cool!
Another crazy thing was the tame deer wandering around everywhere. They're pretty small, and since people feed them, they're very friendly. I saw more than one unsuspecting photographer get eaten from behind while not paying attention...
We wandered around the island looking at the shrine and the shops on the cute little streets. It rained for a while (it rained off and on all week), but we weren't in any hurry, so it was a leisurely day.
Later the tide receded and we walked out under the shrine and looked from the ocean inland...
