Switzerland: Scenic Bernina Express

After we left Innsbruck, we headed to beautiful Switzerland.  The mountains and the scenery were amazing.  I tried to take some pictures from the bus, but not only are they difficult to take, they don't do the scenery justice.

We kept following the Inn River from Innsbruck, Austria, to near its source in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

St. Moritz is a tourist city located along the lake with the same name.  The high season for the resorts is winter, and the lake hosts many sports like ice sailing and ice polo--they outfit the horses with special shoes and play polo on the ice!  St. Moritz, like Innsbruck, has also hosted the winter Olympics twice and there's a  skeleton run (the Cresta run) made of ice that is rebuilt each year and runs though the town.  Being summer, the city was fairly sleepy when we rolled in, but it was very expensive with very fancy stores.  Our hotel here was one of my favorites--very nice!

The next morning we boarded the Bernina Express, one of the highlights of the trip (so much so it was in the trip name).  We rode the train from St. Moritz to Tirano, Italy.  The trip took about 2 1/2 hours and although the morning started off foggy, the clouds cleared and the scenery was amazing!

Beautiful, breathtaking scenery.  What a wonderful first morning in Switzerland.
