Baby it's warm outside

The weather continues to be unseasonably warm, which is a little disheartening as I love snow.  A perk of my job is that we grow corn in tropical locations in the winter, and individuals get sent to these locations to evaluate the fields.  Normally, this would be an escape from the bitter cold winter, but as I prepare for my trip to Puerto Rico next week, the warm weather is less enticing than it might be if we were trapped in snow drifts.  That being said, the 70s and 80s are sounding wonderful as I'm huddled in my sweats and blanket.

Yesterday was our second wedding anniversary.  We went out for a nice meal and just enjoyed being with each other after being apart all weekend.  This anniversary (and last) we had been apart, Rick hunting deer with my father and I volunteering with the State 4-H Council.  Both of us were exhausted from our respective weekend events and I wish that there was one more day in the week that I could dedicate to sleeping.  But alas, it's only Monday, and this week will undoubtedly drag on as I'm not terribly busy and I don't have any meetings to break up my desk time.

My cooking goal is going quite well (haven't tried a recipe we haven't liked yet), and as an unexpected side effect of my cooking Rick and I have been spending more time together.  I married well--Rick does most of the cooking and also much of the cleaning--and I'm not sure if it's a distrust in my abilities or an interest in what new food I am attempting, but Rick has been at my side helping as I'm cooking.  He also does most of the grocery shopping, so when I put frozen cauliflower and broccoli on the list he was very intrigued--I'm not a huge fan of a lot of vegetables.  But they were very tasty in our chicken pot pie this evening.  I'm learning to cook and to eat new things.  I used to be a very picky eater, but have found my tastes broadening.  Maybe I'm just more adventurous than I used to be.

Exciting posts to come soon--I leave for Puerto Rico on Monday!
