Flexibility

Tomorrow I was scheduled to board a plane bound for Puerto Rico.  Plans have changed, as they so often do, and on Wednesday my travel plans were moved (and extended) and I will now be leaving a week from today.  I have deadlines at the end of the month that I was originally going to be back in time to complete, but now with my new travel dates, I will not be back before those deadlines.  Of course, the work still needs to be done, so instead of being due at the end of the month, these items must now be completed before I leave as I don't want to rely on my remote connection working in my hotel after long days in the field in the hot sun.  This week will undoubtedly be stressful.  I have relaxed to the max this weekend in preparation.  It is times like these that I need to remember to breathe, focus, and be flexible.  As I told my boss, it will all get done.  I'm not sure how, but it always does.

As I said, we relaxed this weekend and accepted our impeding age.  Example: Saturday night we stayed up late to seal our granite counter tops.  Yep, we're wild and crazy.  I also spent an hour on the phone with my parents last night which was really nice.  And today I got down on the ground to play with the dog, and when I got up my knee didn't seem to pop back into place--if you're old enough you know what I mean.  It feels like there's a knot in my knee.  A hot shower didn't help, and the ice is helping, but it's still messed up.  How do I get hurt doing nothing?  I really hope it's better in the morning; I don't really have time to go to the doctor this week and definitely don't want to have an injured knee when I'm walking acres of corn in the next few weeks!

Otherwise, life has been good.  Babysat for friends this week and incurred the wrath of a 2-year-old at bed time.  Apparently it's not ok to help her get ready for bed without asking--she's a big girl and can do it herself!  In all honesty, we had a good night together; she's a very cute and well-behaved young lady.  Rick and I had a date night on Friday and tried a local restaurant, new to us, and had a nice evening.  Errands yesterday, and I took Darby to to dog park today.  I think I have just about much fun as she does; I like playing with all the other dogs and watching them interact.  It was such a beautiful day today, though I'm still waiting for snow that will stick around.

This week will be hectic, but in a week it will all be over, and I'll be headed to warmer places.  The time will march on.  I just need to breathe, focus, and get things done!
