Hiking and the Canadian Invasion

Whenever I go away or have a hard day remembering that I like it here, I head up to Koke'e. Seeing the canyon and the Na Pali Coast always amazes me and I find myself saying, I live here. And I'm glad I'm here after taking in the view. Rick and I have a goal of hiking Kalalau at sometime--it's 11 miles one way and everyone talks about how amazing it is. So we went hiking today up in Koke'e. We ended up passing the trail we had decided on but settled on hiking up to the Pu'u o Kila Lookout over Kalalau valley. It was a fairly easy hike since it was a closed road, but I was tired from yesterday still. We decided to continue on Pihea Trail for a while, but as you can see below, the trail wasn't necessarily easy to hike on. Lots of 'potholes,' if you will.
Watch your step!

We didn't end up going very far since the trail was slick and the footing was poor, but the view of Kalalau Valley was pretty amazing. The sad part is that it's getting to the point where I'm used to the beauty and will say, it's not that great today. It doesn't lose its magic, just its novelty. Needless to say, Rick and I have a lot more training to do before the Kalalau Trail.
In other news, two Canadians moved in while I was gone. Kristin's friends Chris and Dan have been traveling around Canada since September working odd jobs and have decided Kauai would be their next destination. They're here for a month and seem to be pretty good guys. Our house is actually lived in now. Seems homey with everyone around. And as I'm sure my loyal readers have probably inferred by this point, Rick is now officially my boyfriend. Things are good here on the island. And as crazy as it may seem, I'm glad to be back and not going anywhere anytime soon. But I'm not excited to go back to work tomorrow...
