Maha'ulepu

I had plans to attend a local luau (not the touristy one) on Saturday night but didn't see the woman who invited me and didn't feel comfortable just wandering in. I was pretty excited about it, but I'll probably make it.

Today Rick and I headed down to Maha'ulepu Beach on the south shore and spent a few hours. The water was really clear and it was beautiful down there. The beach is really long--really a bunch of beaches slung together-- and to begin with we had our own little section to ourselves. It was really nice.
Fishermen put bells on the poles. This allows them to leave poles in different areas and enjoy their time at the beach at the same time. I thought it was clever.

We saw a Monk seal up on the beach here as well, but I didn't get a picture. It was a good day. Very relaxing.
In other news, Rick and I booked a trip to O'ahu February 16-18. Not sure what all we're going to do besides Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head, but we're excited. And I'm looking for deals to visit Jane in Japan in May. And Allyson and my mom are coming out for spring break in March--too much fun! Heard it's cold in Iowa, hope you're all staying warm!
