Businessman's Canoe Race

I'm exhausted and will be going in full force until I'm on a 10-hour plane ride to Japan on Friday. I have no idea how I'm going to get everything done between now and then...

Friday night I worked too long and craved Pizza Hut. Comfort food. And I ate so much of it I thought I was going to be sick. Saturday Rick and I saw Shrek the Third (pretty good though we had to stand in line and the first show was sold out). In the evening Kristin and Josh and Rick and I all went to a housewarming party for a new girl from Colorado--I was glad we went. Even though I didn't know her very well, it was fun (and she had a nice house!).
This morning I got up far too early for a Sunday for the Businessman's Canoe Race. The race was to start at 8, but it was closer to 9 by the time the boats got on the water. Pioneer had 2 men's teams, 1 women's team, and 2 mixed teams. I thought we had quite the support team too! It was a lot of fun.
I thought my arms were going to fall off after the first race. For clarification, it was a quarter-mile race in an outrigger canoe. Not far, but still a lot of work.
We had fun, though. Kris and Bruce show off their big, manly muscles...
The two teams I was on were fighters...we barely got nosed out of first in both our preliminary rounds and our semi-final rounds. Neither of my teams made it into the finals, however. Pioneer did have winners, though. One of our men's teams and one of our mixed teams got trophies--both were third place. Nicole shows off her team's trophy...Even though I was a little disappointed to walk away losing by a nose every time, it was a good time. And I was reassured that I didn't want to spend every weekend paddling. Fun, but hard. If only my back would get better...

Tomorrow I catch up with the Wartburg Wind Ensemble on O'ahu as they come back from their Japanese tour. I really don't have time to go over there, but $48 round trip and the chance to see friends back home is hard to pass up. Even though I'll be more tired, it will be worth it. And by week's end, I'll be in Japan!!!!
