Fall into autumn

We haven't been really busy, but we also haven't had a lot to share lately. We've been cheering on the Cyclones (sometimes to our dismay), I went to a college roommate's wedding, and we've been learning from Darby. The weather has been so beautiful and we've been on long walks and bide rides (Darby's pretty good about running next to the bike and it seems to wear her out), and we've enjoyed the pretty leaves.

This weekend was busy but great. Friday night we headed to Grandma's for supper--my aunt was in town and the meal and company was great. Saturday morning we did some housecleaning, Rick mowed and I went out to the barn to see Maggie, and my aunt and grandma came by to see the house. Then we went to a block party. We had gotten a flier last week inviting us to a party for the whole neighborhood (about 25 houses now--funny, when we moved in there were only 4!) and even though we had planned on going to my parents' house, we decided to leave later so we could meet the neighbors. There was a pretty good turnout--probably half of the homes were represented--and everyone seemed really nice. Nearly all of the residents in our neighborhood are mid-20s to mid-50s with a few kids. We had met everyone on our cul de sac, but we had the chance to talk to our newest neighbors across the street (who I hadn't met) and they were very nice. Everyone seemed to get along well and there was talk of another get together before the end of the year.

After the block party, we headed north to my parents' house. We took Darby to see how she would handle wide open spaces and other dogs. I'm happy to report that she loved running around the farm, didn't run too far, came when called, and got along really well with my parents' dogs. She ran and ran and ran yesterday and somehow never ran out of energy. It's funny, because they probably have at least 20 pounds on her but she fell in the middle of the pecking order. Darby and the younger dog Jade had a lot of fun playing as the older dog Joxer doesn't have enough energy to keep up with them. We had a nice time visiting with the family, but I think Darby had the most fun. She was also very good in the car and jumped right up into the back of the SUV and the crate. Her behavior in the past 2 days has made up for the few frustrating days we had earlier this week!

Work is going to be really crazy for me the next 3 weeks getting ready for the winter nurseries so I may not post anything in the near future. I hope this weather holds out--I'm not ready for winter yet!
