The Waiting Game

Let me start out by answering the question that everyone is asking: no, there is no baby.  And no, I don't know when the baby is coming.  I'm still 10 days from my due date, but every day I show up at work, people seem surprised.  My boss asked me today if she could have 5 more minutes before meeting with me or if I was going into labor.  I called my mom last night for a recipe and she seemed disappointed to talk to me since it wasn't about me having a baby.  My uncle called today to check and see if somehow we had a baby and he didn't hear about it.  Let me tell you, I'm likely more excited than anyone else, but I have no control of when this little nugget comes out, and the questions are getting frustrating.  My sister and I agree and can commiserate together for now.  I'm torn between calling my mom every day with a "guess what? It's raining here!" or not calling anyone until after the baby is here.
So I'm about done with week 38, and there's nothing to report for either my sister or myself.  My best friend Jane, however, did have her little girl Robin on December 2nd, just a few days late.  Jane lives in Japan and they do things a bit differently there (she's still in the hospital--standard procedure), but mom and baby are well.  I am so happy for her and can't wait to meet baby Robin this spring.  She is so adorable!

We have been very busy.  Last week I ate out at least one meal every day between meeting up with friends and work outings.  We also had a very nice shower thrown for us at work on Friday; it was great to celebrate with our coworkers!  Rick and I ran some errands this past weekend, finished up the last bit of Christmas shopping, and enjoyed our last bits of relaxing.  I did have a mishap while helping Rick clean the bathroom and my cell phone fell out of my housecoat pocket and into the toilet which led to a breakdown at Verizon.  I knew while we waited that I was going to lose it and cry but I couldn't help it.  I blame hormones.  Poor Rick didn't see it coming.  Long story short, I reactivated Rick's old phone in lieu of buying a new phone but all is well. This week has been just as busy as this is the first night we don't have any plans.
On Tuesday we had a shipment from Rick's parents: decals for the nursery!  I love them!  Rick and I put them up Tuesday night and they weren't too hard and look adorable.  And I got my tree in the corner and the jungle theme I was going for.  I was impressed that Becky found a sticker set that matched the comforter!  Looking from the door we have the tree in the far corner with the lion over the crib.
The alligator is under the window.  For some reason I was ok with all of the other animals "floating" on the walls, but for some reason I thought the gator had to go on the floor.  I really can't explain it, but it only seemed natural.  The bouncer is in the shot too; funny how something with less than 5 parts was so difficult to put together.
A little closer shot of the tree.  Neither of us had worked with decals before, but they were pretty easy to put on the wall.  The tree itself was a dozen or so separate pieces and the leaves all went on one by one.  Rick was better at the stickers than I was, but I'm ok with that.  Rick's parents brought up the rocker a few weeks ago--Rick's parents used it when he was a baby.
The giraffe above the changing table.  The little giraffe hamper is to the left, but I didn't think to get it in the shot.  It's pretty cute, though!
The little lion is over the crib.  I'm also pretty excited about our jungle themed breathable bumper.  It's so cute!  The mobile is rain forest themed as well and I snagged that at a second hand sale.  Not only does it spin and play music and nature noises, but the little leaves open and close too around the animals.  Darby can't get over the jungle noises; she is very curious and is trying to figure out where those noises are coming from.  It's cute, really.
And lastly is this little guy--the monkey hanging off the door jam on the way in (or out) of the room.  Such a perfect place for this little guy!  We're just so happy with how the room turned out--thanks so much Becky and Roy!

And we're back to where we started.  Waiting.  Soon we will have news, I'm sure.  It's only a matter of time.
