Great weekend

This has been a great weekend; does it have to end?

The week went well (and quickly, that's always a bonus). Thursday night my volleyball played in the league tournament championship game and, though we lost, played very well. I'll miss playing every week. While I was away on Thursday night Rick made some sangria that turned out quite well so we had some friends over on Friday night to help us drink it. We grilled out and played bags in the back yard and then played some board games once it got too dark (and too cold) for bags. It was very nice.

Saturday was also nice but busy. We had some errands to run and started the day off at the DMV. Always a pleasure. After a hour and a half of my life that I will never get back, I have now changed my name (and address) with the state of Iowa. Now I guess I only have 30 days to change my social security card or my license gets suspended. Changing my name is a lot of work! After the DMV, we looked into patio furniture (but didn't get any) and trees to put in the yard. Home quick to change and then we headed to Altoona to meet up with our friends Braden and Kim and 9-month-old Caelyn. The boys played tennis while we introduced Caelyn to the baby swing. It was a great day to be out in the park! We then headed back to their place to grill--it was a great afternoon. Then home again after swinging by the library to pick up some books on gardening and landscaping.

Today was also very rewarding. After making blueberry muffins this morning, I headed out to the stable to work with Maggie. I was hoping to ride her this weekend, but I also know I need to be smart about working with her. Although she's a sweetheart and pretty well behaved, I rode her once last year and not heavily since before I went to Hawaii--so it's been a while. So I didn't want to place the bar too high and be realistic about the situation. But she couldn't have been better. It was a great morning. Others out at the barn were even commenting that she was doing well for me. We even migrated to the outside arena and loped--she couldn't have impressed me more for not being ridden in so long.

Then we headed to the gym, then to the mall, then to pick up patio furniture. Then home to work on the yard some more. And I made a great meal tonight, lasagna cordon bleu, that required sauteing and dicing and figuring out what a clove of garlic was. It was kind of fun and rewarding, though we'll be eating it for days to come. But I consider it a success! I have been telling Rick that I would try and cook more now that I have free time, but I haven't really held up to that promise. But last week I narrowed down some recipes that I thought I could handle and we now have the ingredients, so we'll see what else we can add to our repertoire.

I thought I would show how the neighborhood has grown:
There was an open house for the gray one across the street today. One just down the street was the featured home in the home finder section of the Sunday paper today. And check out how green our lawn is getting--the sod is finally growing!
And our new patio furniture--can't wait to use it!

Ummm.... How does one play bags in the backyard? Is that a term for sack racing? Or bean bags? And it they are bean bags, is it like horse shoes?

Bean bags, kind of like horseshoes. Also called corn hole, but that sounds dirty. But we really should get a sack race going in the backyard. Could get interesting when you hit the hill at the end of the yard.
