For those of you not living in Iowa during this blessed winter, I would like to share yesterday morning with you. I had to be in at school early and after bundling up in my long underwear and several layers, I left the house around 6 AM. On my roughly 30 mile drive, I encountered temperatures ranging from -13 to -21 degrees below zero. Fahrenheit. Ambient air temperature (who knows what the wind chill was). I'm not saying that my car's thermometer is the most accurate instrument in the world, but you have to admit that's cold! Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I've never seen temps that cold before in my life.
In other news, classes are fine (I only have 2 right now--the other 2 start later in the semester) and lab is getting better. We'll see how yesterday's early-morning efforts pan out next week. Eating at Hickory Park tomorrow for lunch--mmm, barbecue!--and going to a Martina McBride concert with my sister on Sunday evening. Then it's back to the routine on Monday. But rumor has it temps will top out around 40 this weekend. Heat wave!

Just think, a year ago you were basking in the sun, paddling, sailing, and enjoying those lush, tropical hikes. Oh, the joys of the good ole Iowa weather!!
I feel your pain...I haven't felt my extremeties in weeks! Keep it real. ~Scarlett
