There was also the North American Veterinarian Dermatological meeting at this hotel--I told Dad he should have come out for it. Nice place.

The Marriott
It's been awhile since I've been to a function at a fancy hotel. The Marriott is one of the bigger (and nicer) hotels on the island. One of the few connected to a chain (we also have a Hilton and a Sheraton) leaving the rest of the hotels to smaller, local kind. Anyway, we were the first done golfing on Saturday so we headed to the banquet room only to wait for lunch. I decided to walk around and take in the hotel.
These shots are actually taken from the courtyard. There were swans and nene (Hawaiian geese) and a huge coi pond.
The hotel rose up on all sides of this open-air square and is unique in the fact that it's a tall building. You might think that's funny, but there's a law that buildings can't be built taller than a palm tree can grow. There are a few hotels that were built before this law came into effect to try and maintain the skyline of Kauai and I feel a little awkward around tall walls.
There were hammocks in the middle too for relaxing. The nice thing about being a haole is I can wander in there and pretend like I'm a guest at the hotel. No one questions a white person who looks lost.
