Relaxing and busy at the same time

I love being almost done with school. There's little to no studying to do at night, no stress about classes, and I've really enjoyed my free time. But we've kept busy. The Christmas tree and decorations are up, presents wrapped under the tree, and I'm finishing up some homemade gifts this weekend. It's nice to have the time to do the personal things...

Last Sunday we got some engagement pictures taken with my friend Erin--can't wait to see how they turned out. I've never really considered Rick and I models by any means. This week was slow. My sister and I play on a volleyball league and tournament play started this week. We won our division in the regular season and won 1, lost 1 in the first round (we shouldn't have lost...) of tournament play. Championships next week. Last night a group of friends got together and watched the ISU women's volleyball team win the first round of NCAA play here in Ames--nice to see some really good volleyball.

Today was heartbreaking. We met with our realtor and saw 5 houses this afternoon. First house- new construction, very nice, a little out of the way, but generally we liked it. Second and third houses were not for us. The fourth house was the house. Amazing. What we wanted and more. We walked in and instantly loved it. Hardwood floors (not laminate), huge, beautiful kitchen, nice master bedroom, fenced back yard, nice deck, 3 more bedrooms, 3 car garage, just on the north side of the Pioneer farm, just beautiful. It was on the upper end of our range, but would be a house we could stay in for a long time, not something we would leave in 10 years. So great. Apparently it was a repo so it was priced much lower than it was worth (which is great for us), making a dream house a reality. And then, as we were asking the realtor what happens when we love it, someone comes in and asks what we're doing there. Apparently someone already signed for it and is in the process of buying it. I can't even tell you how crestfallen we were. We tried to focus on the bad things about the place as we left to try and make us feel better, but the only thing we could think of was the steepish driveway and the stickers on one of the walls. It was devastating. House #5 was fine, but nothing could compare in the shadow of the house. Our realtor is going to keep an eye on it in case something falls through, but we were so bummed.

This evening we had supper with good friends and by the time we had left, I had almost (almost) forgotten about the dream house. And then another disappointment this evening as Texas beat Nebraska--I was pulling for the Huskers!

Tomorrow Rick and I are having a contest to see who can sleep in the latest (only kind of kidding) and I'm hoping to do some cooking and crafting tomorrow. And there's tons of SNOW on the way--I can't wait!
