The beauty of Kalalau

After a hike of a mile or so there was a clearing in the brush. The trade winds hit us, which was a nice relief since we had worked up a sweat. We looked down upon yet another great view of the Ke'e Beach. And then the trail took a bend, and we looked upon the most beautiful scenery I have seen on this island.
The Na Pali coast laid out in front of us, sprawled for miles.

We sat and watched the whales playing in the western ocean. It was great.
We sat and took it in for a while. The trail started to go downhill from here and we decided to turn back to avoid getting in over our heads. The whole hike back Rick and I were talking about the supplies we would need, the permits, our hiking regiment to work our way up to Kalalau. I think seeing the trail and what it has to offer really got us excited about going and trying to hike the whole thing. I can't describe how amazing it was--I felt so young and alive.
Wandered around North Shore the rest of Saturday. Come to think of it, I have more pictures from the North Shore--Hanalei Bay and the taro fields. I'll have to put them up later--time to go to work. I start my new job today!

Nice photography there, Ashley. I put the top picture on my desktop at work.
