Welcomed weekend

For those of you not keeping track at home, I, along with the vast majority of the little people that work out at the Waimea research station, have been working every Saturday since the beginning of November. Well, the week of Christmas we had Saturday off and we worked Sunday. You see where I'm going with this. Anyway, this weekend (drum roll, please) we had not 1 but 2 days off!!! That's right, Saturday and Sunday just like real workers. I was so happy I didn't know what to do with myself. I could get used to this 2-day weekend thing.

Chris and Dan, the crazy Canadians that have been staying at our house, decided to take Kristin and I out for supper. I assume it's as a thank you, though it was never stated. Anyway, we went to Poipu to the Hilton and ended up eating at Yum Cha, and I did ok with the chopsticks. We had a pretty good time--felt a little touristy but it was fun. After dinner (we ate so much!) we went to the Library--a very classy (and very pricey) bar. All in all it was a good night.

Saturday Rick and I decided to head up to the North Shore. I had only been there once near the end of October, so it was fun to go again. I have lots of pictures, so this will take a few postings. Instead of working our way to the end of the road, we decided to start at the end and work our way back to the Lihue area. So I drove until there wasn't any road left.

Our first stop of the day was the wet cave, so named to distinguish it from the dry cave found a ways down the road. The cave itself was pretty impressive and there was a mysterious passage leading back into the mountain--I wonder where it went. If the water weren't so dirty it would have been interesting to wade back to see.
