Our third day in the Hiroshima area was spent at Iwakuni, a town known for its
Kintai Bridge. The goal was to build a bridge that would not get washed away by the river and the debris that collected at the base of the bridge. The bridge was constructed in 1673, where it stood for 276 years.

Shortly after Word War II, a typhoon wiped out the bridge as it had not been properly maintained during wartime. The bridge was reopened in 1953. It takes forever to walk across!

Iwakuni is a castle town with the castle resting atop the mountain. We didn't go in this castle (we had seen so many at this point), but we did get to ride a cable car to the top!
